			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Knowing how to wire a dump trailer remote can be a little confusing, but just relax, we are here to help! </p>
<p>The first thing to consider: Are you wiring a Power-Up/Power-Down (Double-Acting) or Power-Up/Gravity-Down (Single-Acting) hydraulic pump.</p>
<h3>Dump Trailers with Power-Up/Power-Down Pump:</h3>

<p>Usually, these units use a 4-Wire remote, unless you have an older Homesteader trailer, or wiring any pump with 2 &#8220;Starter Solenoids&#8221;. If that&#8217;s the case, you can still use the 4 wire remote, you&#8217;ll not use the &#8220;Master&#8221; wire. The 4-wire remote has a wire that is &#8220;hot&#8221; with each button, one for the lift valve and another for the lowering valve, plus it has the &#8220;master&#8221; wire that is hot with either button.</p>
<p><b>Wiring is as follows:</b><br />
-Green &#8211; Power (to Battery)<br />
-Red &#8211; Raise (to Lift Valve)<br />
-White &#8211; Down (to Lowering Valve)<br />
-Black &#8211; Start Master (to Starter)

These units are a bit more simple, so you just have the power, starter &#038; lowering circuits. These pumps lift when the motor starts and lower when the lowering valve is fired.</p>

-Green &#8211; Power (to Battery)<br />
-White &#8211; Down (to Lowering Valve)<br />
-Black &#8211; Start (to Starter)</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Welcome to the 2nd installment of Hydraulics 101! So what is the stroke of a hydraulic cylinder?</p>

The stroke is actually the distance the cylinder can travel, from fully closed to fully open. When someone is talking about a 30&#8243; cylinder, they aren&#8217;t (or shouldn&#8217;t be) talking about the overall length of the cylinder, but they should be talking about how far it will lift or move something. The basic description of any cylinder is BORE &#038; STROKE, so a 2.5 X 30 hydraulic cylinder has a 30&#8243; stroke, meaning it will lift or push something 30&#8243;.</p>
<p>If you aren&#8217;t sure what the stroke of your cylinder is, subtract the length &#8220;fully closed&#8221; from the length &#8220;fully open&#8221;. Easy enough?</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Sometimes we talk about things in a way that makes perfect sense to us, forgetting that it may not make a lot of sense to people that are not &#8220;in the business&#8221; of our industry. So I&#8217;m starting this new series of posts for those new to hydraulics &#038; hydraulic cylinders in particular. We will try to keep the posts short, to the point, easy to understand &#038; informative.</p>
<p><strong>So, what <em>is </em>the &#8220;Bore&#8221; of a hydraulic cylinder &#038; why is it important?</strong><br />
The bore is simply the INSIDE DIAMETER of the tube of the cylinder.<br />

<p>The Bore of the cylinder determines the total power of the cylinder. The larger the bore, the more it can lift or push. If you see or hear us talking about a &#8220;4 inch&#8221; cylinder, we are always talking about the bore of the cylinder. The outside diameter (OD) is usually about 1/2&#8243; larger than the bore, but it depends on the wall thickness, so if you measured your cylinder from the outside and it measures 4-1/2&#8243;, you can be pretty sure its a 4&#8243; Bore cylinder.</p>
